Some examples of those injuries can be helicopter transport injuries, accident on offshore vessels, accidents on the platform, which could include, but not be limited to, falls, head injuries caused by falling equipment, fractures of crush injuries, basket transfer mishaps, failures of the rig, any injury caused by any of the equipment on the rig and fires or explosions. If you are injured, the first thing you need to do is report it to the chain of command so that an incident report is created. If you require immediate medical attention, the person in the chain of command should come to you to make sure the report is completed. If you are on fishing vessel, you are covered under the Jones Act, you are entitled to “maintenance and cure” payments should you have to be off work due to your injury, and that amount is based on your salary. Please see more details under our main section of “Admiralty and Offshore” found on our website. Richard J. Plezia has over 22 years of experience in the injuries sustained by offshore workers.
